[技术文章] How To: Turn your Windows XP laptop into a WiFi hotspot
if you and you buddy have two laptops but only one ethernet cable, and you don’t have a router or hub in hand, you can turn one of the two laptop computers into a wifi hotspot with only a few clicks.
here is how you do it in windows xp:
open up network connections in control panel, right click on wireless network connection and select properties.
in the wireless networks tab, make sure the check box “use windows to configure my wireless network settings” is checked, then click add… button under preferred networks. in wireless network properties window, fill in the name for your new hotspot, say “brian’s hot spot”, choose a network authentication method, data encryption, and a network key, make sure at the bottom, check the box “this is a computer-to-computer (ad hoc) network; wireless access points are not used”.
click ok to close this window, and you should see the new wireless network in the preferred networks. click ok to close this window.
right click on local area connection in the network connections window, select properties. in the advanced tab, check the first check box in the internet connection sharing group, and leave the second check box unchecked. click ok to close this window.
now if you go to the other computer, you should be able to see the newly created wireless network. |
